An innovative approach to teaching & learning

Heartwork Videos is a resource for surgeons who are educators, who accept the most challenging and unique cases, and who teach their technique and skill to trainees and colleagues.

Our producers are certified surgical video editors who "speak the language" and complete production with an average turnaround time of 72 hours. We edit surgical footage into a concise, polished video which includes annotations and voice-over narration, helping tell a complete story of the procedure.

Our mission is to supplement teaching, accelerate learning, and improve patient outcomes.

Education is at the heart of what we do.

Editing a video of a surgical procedure needs to be done by someone that understands the nuances
of medicine and has had years of experience. I can say without reservation that Rachel understands
the intricacies involved with editing a surgical procedure.

Meet Rachel

After graduating with a BA in Video Production from Webster University (STL, MO 2007), Rachel Simon-Lee joined the Media Services team at BJC HealthCare (2011). That year, the Nashville native became the only surgical video producer in the organization.

Simon-Lee was instrumental in finding technology-based solutions for performance improvement and clinical research studies while supporting The Heart Center at St. Louis Children's Hospital. Her technical skill, knowledge of medical procedures, and portfolio of over 100 surgical case edits became the catalyst for the start-up, Heartwork Videos.

Her vision for Heartwork is simple: to help create educational video content that positively impacts patient outcomes worldwide.

Surgical videos are an excellent patient education tool that can supplement the consent process.
They can bolster the surgeon’s esteem in the eyes of his or her colleagues
as well as provide an indispensable marketing tool.
